For many of us, this isn’t just the darkest time of the year in physical terms – it is a veritable dark night of the soul as many of us struggle to adjust to yet more government restrictions and Covid-driven changes of plan which threaten to turn our family and friends focused Midwinter celebrations into a cold and hollow sham.
Just remember what the Winter Solstice signifies – the rebirth of light and the Sun/Son… the return of life and hope and new beginnings. So grit your teeth, slap a smile across your face and hang on in there. This situation won’t last forever. Make the very best of what you have.
To help yourself, those surrounding you and the Earth herself at this extra special and significant time, I have a simple suggestion to make which might just help. Every time you feel overwhelmed, sad, resentful, angry, fearful – whatever – just stop, and focus instead on feeling love and sending it out to everything around you. Don’t apportion or rationalise – briefly get lost in the moment, of channelling your unconditional love for the universe… and planet Earth in particular. Do it often enough and make it into an automatic gut reaction. You may be surprised. Try it and see what happens and how it makes you feel.
I wish you and yours heartfelt good wishes for a blessed and wondrous Solstice. For the next three full days, we shall all appear to languish in great darkness, but on the morning of the 25th December, the daylight will once again be perceptibly longer and we shall have passed the deepest depths and can turn our faces towards a new year… a new cycle of seasons, with new prospects and hope.
May we all find comfort and inspiration to greet the light.
A very happy Solstice indeed, with my love,
Gillian.

Thank you so much for this post. Just what is needed at this time. One of my fellow book club members has decided you are the embodiment of Frau Holle (I hope that is the right spelling!). We have been reading Merry Midwinter and all love it. We have decided your new book is next! Wishing you Solstice blessings. Thank you for spreading so much light and joy.
Thank you for your lovely comments, Annabel. I am delighted that your book club has been enjoying ‘Merry Midwinter’ and hope that ‘Spring In Your Step’ helps to lighten the dark days of early spring for you all. I am tickled pink to be likened to Frau Holle whom I have admired and loved since I was a child! (My ‘Walking With The Goddess’ digital monthly activities has an interesting guided journey with Frau Holle this month – more details listed under ‘Earthwalking’ on this website).
Lovey to read thank you
