‘MERRY VEGAN MIDWINTER’: an alternative festive feast of delights… Sunday, 24th November 2019, Trigonos, Gwynedd, North Wales.

Author Gillian Monks and author and T.V. chef Lee Watson are teaming up to bring you a day of seasonal enjoyment, inspiring experiences and magical treats.

Are you interested in a Christmas which doesn’t revolve around commercialisation and consumerism? Do you wish to get back in touch with the true spirit of Christmas and return to celebrating this time of year in a more authentic way?

Prepare to be inspired!

GILLIAN will be sharing her passion for Winter and the Midwinter/Christmas festival by explaining why we have always celebrated at this time of year and why it is still important for us to do so. She will also be leading a workshop on making your own festive decorations(using locally foraged natural evergreens) which include fir cone gnomes, Welsh calennigs, Christmas door wreaths and kissing balls, as well as sharing some of her ideas for eco-friendly, recyclable gift wrapping. Later in the day, Gillian will lead stories and carols around an open fire.

LEE, will be creating a plant-based festive menu, with lots of treats – a sumptuous three-course Christmas lunch, using local produce that everyone can enjoy. (Gluten-free and sugar-free options are available… all equally decadent and delicious!) Lee will also be demonstrating how to cook a full vegan Christmas dinner, step by step.

  • Three-course plant-based festive lunch and welcome drink.
  • Authentic Christmas decoration workshop with Gillian.
  • Cooking demonstration with Lee.
  • A selection of teas and fresh coffee.
  • Candlelit afternoon tea with special hot chocolate, storytelling and carols by a blazing open fire.
  • Full recipe booklet, especially designed for the day – try all the recipes at home.
  • Much knowledge and many practical tips on how you can authentically reconnect with the festive season.

GILLIAN: ” Celebrating Midwinter is not about what you buy or how much you spend. Turn away from the frenetic consumerism and rediscover the authentic and meaningful realities of this, the oldest and most precious celebration of the year. For the true significance of Midwinter is not found in any individual spiritual or religious belief or practice. Instead, Midwinter provides an opportunity to celebrate what we, as human beings, all share and to set aside our differences and come together in mutual friendship and community spirit.”

LEE: ” Many people are choosing to eat more plant-based foods. I want to make the festive season delicious for all! Taking into account people with special dietary requirements, I will be showcasing vegan, gluten-free and even sugar-free options and creating a Christmas lunch menu full of flavours, textures and pleasant surprises that everyone will enjoy.

I am beginning a new cycle of monthly activities in the new year. I am going to entitle them ‘Walking With The Goddess’ – in this instance, the ‘Goddess’ being Gaia… the Earth herself. These activities will take the form of gatherings, one day each month, on our land at Cae Non, but you will also be able to sign up for the information on-line too, so that you can metaphorically  join with us from wherever you are in the world.

The whole ethos will be focused on balance, practical action, positive attitude and love.

EACH MONTH… there will be practical tasks to complete: for instance, changing some aspect of your lifestyle to something more environmentally acceptable; lobbying local businesses, your local M.P., your local council; befriending and becoming intuitively practical guardians of specific aspects of wild life or neglected and abused areas of land .

EACH MONTH… we will all be reminded of the huge importance of shedding our negativity and transforming it into positive, loving care and action. There will be exercises, guided journeys and the teaching of how to access and work positively with the elemental beings of the natural world and work with energy at a higher level to cleanse and heal.

EACH MONTH… will feature a divine archetype take from the pantheon of Welsh/Celtic goddesses and gods. For those who find it useful, they will help to provide structure and inspiration. These are ancient figureheads, generated from our most basic needs and beliefs, and in such volatile times we might once again benefit from visiting and re-examining our more primal natures and responses.

I will also ask you to try and actively engage with the rest of the group, literally or electronically, to provide stimulus, support and inspiration. This will help everyone to feel their mutual connection to each other and engender a cohesive whole.

Naturally, all this will require commitment. It is up to you how much time, intention, energy and effort you apply to it. It is solely up to you how much you achieve… and consequently how much you personally get out of it. But at this point we have everything to play for, everything to win… or loose.

If you are interested in joining us – literally or electronically – get in touch with me. I truly hope that as many of you as possible will choose to join in.

Inaugural day and first Walking With the Goddess gathering:

Sunday, 26th January 2020.

Day workshop: £50
Digital: £5

Together we can make a difference.
